September Newsletter

Hey everyone!

I hope you are enjoying the last few days of summer. As much as I'm sad about summer coming to an end, I'm starting to get excited for fall. I'm trying to think about apple cider, apple picking, pumpkins, over sized knit sweaters and cozy scarfs. So I'm preparing myself by working on some new clutches in fall inspired fabrics. My latest color obsession is navy, white and orange. I will be posting them to my etsy site soon! I will be putting some of my more summery bags on sale next week. Use the coupon code SEPTNEWS2011 at checkout to receive free shipping on top of the sale price.

I hope to see you at one of the two markets I will be attending this month. Newburyport Farmers Market on Sunday the 11th from 10AM-1. It makes a perfect fall outing with local produce, live music and talented artisans. Oh, and there are usually delish cider donuts for sale this time of year! http://www.thenewburyportfarmersmarket.org/

SOWA open market on Sunday September 25th from 10AM-4 in the South End of Boston. There are amazing artists, food trucks, a vintage sale and a farmers market all in one spot. I keep saying it but this market is really amazing! http://www.sowaopenmarket.com/

Thumbs down

Thumbs down to blisters!

Okay I think it's time to take a sewing break. I have literally sewn untill my fingers blistered. I've been on a spree of making headbands latley. I've been having fun adding fabric rosettes to make little girl headbands. I think I will make some in adult sizes too. I may need to make the gray and white pinstripe with yellow and white flowers for myself. I don't think it's too cutsey with the pinstripe....

So now here's the important question; to pop or not to pop? I know it's not sanitary but the little bugger is just begging me squeeze it so I can actually use my thumb again. Hope I didn't gross anyone out too bad with this post :)

Winter blues

I've been getting a serious case of the winter blues lately! I guess to be more accurate, its been more like a case of the winter greys, blacks and neutrals. I've been loving all the soft neutral colors this winter. The light greys, oatmeals and beiges seem so cozy in the winter months, but now I'm craving some color!! Spring still seems so far away I need a dose of some springtime color somewhere.
For me, the best way to cure the winter blues is with some good ol' retail therapy. I may have gone a little crazy this time. If there's a rehab for fabric addicts, I need to sign up. Actually, that would involve not buying more fabric and I still have a spot on the top shelf of my closet that could fit at least a few more yards. Once that gets full I may need to come to terms with things. The next blog that I write may start with "hello my name is Nicola and I'm a fabric addict." In the meantime, I'm going to delight in all these bright, springy colors!

Spring better hurry up and get here to give me a dose of color in the landscape before I go broke or turn into an all out hoarder/addict. Check out these beautiful fabrics! I can wait to get to work on some new projects with them.
I hope everybody else is finding some way to stay sane till springtime!!

November!

Hello everyone!

I can't believe the holiday season is right around the corner! I'm not ready for the cold weather just yet, but I've become obsessed with some great fall prints. Plaids and houndstooth fabrics are very trendy this season and I have some new bow shaped clutches and sling bags in both. Check them out on my etsy site... nicoladesign.etsy.com

I'm excited to be attending the Annual Shopping on the Avenue Des Champs- Elysees in Portsmouth New Hampshire. The famous Paris shopping street will be recreated indoors in downtown Portsmouth. There will even be street musicians and yummy french deserts! I will be at 200 state street along with 40 other artisans on November 21st from 9 AM till 3 PM. http://creatingthehive.com/event/8969/champs-elysees-boutique-shopping

I'm happy to share that the Newburyport Farmers Market will be extended through the holiday season. I will be at the market on Sunday November 14th. It's still going strong through the fall and now has heaters set up outside. Get an early start to your holiday shopping (or gifts for yourself!) and stop by the Tannery shopping plaza from 10 AM till 1:00

I hope everyone is having a great start to your summer and staying cool in this heat! I have a bunch of new braided sling bags in bright, fun, summer prints. They make great beach bags and testing them out has been my excuse to fit in as many beach days as possible!

I will be back at the Newburyport Farmers Market this Sunday, August 1st and August 22nd from 9AM-1PM. It's a great market with a ton of fresh, local produce, live music and talented crafters. If you're in the area I recommend stopping by... www.thenewburyportfarmersmarket.org

I'm also excited to be attending the Wenham museum craft festival on August 28th from 10-4. The museum is open free to the public that day as well. www.wenhammuseum.org/special_events.html I know I've been a big time slacker about updating my website but I finally have some new braided sling bags and yoga mat bags listed. I will be listing new clutches later this week too. Stop by my etsy site to check them out... nicoladesign.etsy.com

outdoor sewing attempt two

Outdoor sewing attempt two...

It's one of those rare, perfect, New England summer days today. It's 75 degrees, sunny and dry with clear bright blue sky. If you have been unlucky enough to live in New England this past summer, you know how precious this weather is. Weeks of a scorching hot heat wave and humidity that has made any possibility of a sleek blowout in my naturally rats nest-esque curls a distant springtime memory has been interrupted only by hurricane like rainstorms.

Sorry, I don't mean to whine. The point of this blog wasn't to complain about the weather but to let you in on my plan to enjoy today to the fullest. Here's the deal.... I have a few sewing projects that I planned on working on today (I have a picture of a fabric rosette bib necklace in my head that I've been dieing to create). My problem is that it's just way too gorgeous out today to waste a day indoors. So the only solution seems to be to take this show on the road, or at least the patio.

You may have noticed that I titled this blog "outdoor sewing attempt two". I faced this same dilemma one day last year but without the use of an extension cord long enough to reach the patio table my mission was aborted before it began. So now with extra long extension cord, sunscreen, sewing machine, sunscreen and maybe a pitcher of margaritas in hand I will attempt again.

Wish me luck! I will let you know how it turn out!
